When to update your Headshot and tips

You may be a beginner, intermediate, or advanced, in the industry. But, the question remains, how often should you be updating your headshot pic. Some say, a minimum of 1 to 2 years. I say, at least every 6 months. And, I know that may seem a lot, but here are the factors that come into play. Has your hairstyle grown out, has your weight changed, do you have a completely different look from your last photo? All questions for you personally to assess before taking your new headshot. We may not realize it, but there may be subtle changes in your appearance. It can even be a hair style change. Does you current photo reflect who you are today? If you are being booked through an agency, they expect you to look exactly like your photo, and this can affect your bookings if it differs. I would say a good rule of thumb would be at least once a year. But, everyone's specific needs may be different.

Now that you've decided to get headshots taken, research photographers, get references, etc. Keep it simple with hair and makeup. Wear clothing with no logos and basic with neutral colors. The focus should bring out your natural beauty, smile, perhaps personality, especially if its for an acting headshot.
